I have a really comprehensive resume that I typed up earlier for NMSF, and the Common App info spots are really awkward. Is two pages too much information for an attached resume?

Not at all.

Good. Also wondering, should I include significant things from 8th grade? (in particular All-State band, and a historical paper that won my district/went to state for the National History Day competition)

bump 10char

…and again

haha idk but i went to nationals (finalist) for NHD in 8th grade!
different year though, since I’m currently a junior
so I’d like to know as well

I’ve heard that you should try to keep attatched resumes to about a page.

About the 8th grade stuff: I wouldn’t include it unless you’ve continued on in that area.

well for me yeah. I have and will continue doing nhd throughout h.s. and I’ve gotten to states every year since 8th grade but not Nationals. does that justify it?

nice. but I want to include it because I don’t have anything else history related…

2 page resume should be ok, but skip the 8th grade stuff its overkill.

2 page resumes are too much. Remember that admissions people are just scanning through your application, looking for relevant information. It is to your benefit to present yourself in an interesting yet concise way.

Most people recommend not adding 8th grade information, but I think it is OK if it shows a trend (i.e. All-State 8th - 12th grade).

hmmm for the OP i dont think it would make sense to add NHD if its the only history thing…aren’t colelges looking for a commitment and passion in a certain subject? if that’s your only history thing then it wouldn’t help at all would it?
for me it would be a trend and part of a few history-related things I do, to show a passion for history

I hate to differ but my sister had a 2 page resume last year and it didn’t stop her from getting accepted at 8 out of 10 schools. Did they all read it? I obviously can’t answer that – but it sure didn’t have a negative effect.

My friend didn’t even include a resume (just related his ECs on the space provided on the common app) and he got into a top five school.

It shouldn’t hurt.

imho, including 8th grade stuff makes it seem like you’re cramming info in because you have nothing else. Just my 2cents.
