Do coaches from different schools (Ivy or Nescac) confer with each other about recruits?

That’s a really tough question, extractor. Relationships between coaches ranges from best friends and former team mates to arch rivals who would cross the road to avoid saying hello. You should probably assume that coaches will share information, and be honest but circumspect about what you choose to say about your plans, how you feel about other schools, and so on.

I know in baseball they (ivy & nescac) hold some camps & showcases together. It is a small fraternity. I would think “recruits” or “status of recruits” would be the one area of discussion that Ivy or any conference team would not share with each other…but that is just my best guess. I think the word gets around through other intermediaries (travel coaches, agents) or though coaches that are not competing against each other.

On the other hand, many recruits have been recruited by more than one Ivy, so that dynamic is interesting. I can see a situation where a player may hold a grudge after being “stiffed” or “passed over” for another prospect. That may get the motivational juices flowing!

Yes; I have some personal experience with this for baseball. July 1st several schools call me. One of them calls me just once, perhaps because I didn’t really express a great deal of initial interest in them…Anyway, as the summer progresses, eventually I make my college commitment. That same day a school calls asking me my situation, and I tell them out front that I’ve verbally committed elsewhere. About two hours later, I get another call, this time from the school that had only called me on July 1st, asking me about my college situation and saying that he had heard from someone that I was committed to a school. I also get an email from a school the next day from a school with which I had been somewhat actively communicating with asking if it was true that I was committed. It kinda took be aback, how quickly all this spread. These coaches, they know each other and spread the word about players whether they have them committed or not. This happens especially in the Ivy League where coaches are often all recruiting the same kids because of the academic constraints.

Yes, they talk, and they hear all the rumors, from current student-athletes, HS and elite club coaches, parents, etc. about who’s “verballed” here and who’s “thinking about going” there.

I think too they learn through the recruits–a coach can ask a current prospect, “hey do you know so n so” and That recruit may say, yes, met him/her at HYP etc…so then the coach knows BOTH recruits have been to HYP…
kwim I think that sometimes the recruits unknowingly give away info AND I think recruits can say things to coaches to try and beat out competitors.

During initial unofficials–all of the coaches asked our student where else we had visited…
During the current OVs, our athlete was honest about first choice and other OVs…
Our student took the limited OV strategy–and did not take all five. Our student told the coach of The School they were # 1 on the list…we have wondered if that expressio of love was shared with other coaches/schools. No way to know for sure, and its worked out perfectly so there are no regrets in this house.
