Hey guys, this is my first post here.
I’ve been reading a lot about extracurriculars lately. I realized that I may be a phony (extracurriculars for colleges) although it is not true.
Here is my current involvement (I indicate position not to show off but for the purpose of answering my question:
Mu Alpha Theta President
FBLA VP
Drumline Captain
NHS President
Student Council Senator
History bowl captain
BETA club member
That’s all my school stuff.
I volunteer at the library, help freshman transition into high school, and help my church out.
Do all those ECs suggest I’m trying to do them just for colleges? The real answer is No. I genuinely enjoy this ECs and I would hate to give any single one up. However, it may seem to college admission officers that I am merely trying to impress them.
Any advice?
I really would appreciate your feedback!
But aren’t you supposed to impress them? I mean, I can’t imagine why an admissions officer would assume you’re doing them for college admissions and then just reject you on that basis. Seems a little wrong
hi, you posted in the wrong place. This section is LESSONS LEARNED, where people volunteer stories and wisdom after the fact of their experiences through the admission process. Post to the College Admissions forum since that is what your question concerns.
The only one I’m familiar with is drumline captain. As least in my marching band, drumline captains are the best percussion players, have been playing since fourth grade, are extremely dedicated, and have worked really hard for that position and no one would do it just for college. So at least for that one, it isn’t a “just for applications” extracurricular. For the history bowl captain, you could show that the team improved or did well under your leadership so it’s not just a position to put but that you actually helped the team.
