Extracurriculars as Pre-med

What do you think about these extracurricular activities?

Undergraduate research program at Physiological Sciences lab, assisting in research for healing spinal cord injury. Tasks involve making incisions to cause intentional hind leg paralysis on mice and fixing them with various methods.

Volunteer at Eye center, working as a tear sampler. Does this count as clinical experience, since I deal with people?

Working as a Community Service Officer, which is kinda like campus police officer, we patrol around the resident halls and make sure everythign is safe.

Joining ROTC and training to be a lieutenant.

Are these extracurriculars good ideas?

Thanks guys.

Are you doing all 4 at once? Or do you want an idea of what to do?

Do whatever you enjoy. I’m not sure if “tear sampler” is really clinical experience. The research looks good.

How are you planning to do ROTC/post-college-military service with plans of medical school?

Yes, currently I am doing all 4.

for Air Force ROTC, I’m going in as a medical officer, so I have to servie 4 years after I get my M.D. from a medical school. As far as I know, the Air Force doesn’t give special benefits to get into medical schools.

So I am just wondering how will the medical schools see me being an ROTC…

Please give me some insight
