Extracurriculars or APs??

I’m a rising 10th grader who’s only taking AP World History–no other AP courses–because of lack of space. Last year, I took AP Human Geography as a freshman, and was originally planning on building off of that and expanding to at least two APs this year. However, I ended up foregoing a potential AP course slot for my school newspaper instead, because I think I could do well in it. That being said, I’m already involved in my school’s theatre. I can see myself assuming a leadership position in the newspaper better, though, and getting to shine more.

Was it smart to take on a second extracurricular instead of an AP? My school is VERY competitive and I feel like I’m underachieving.

You shouldn’t take an ec just for competition, you won’t enjoy it. Also, colleges will know that the ap was offered. If you put a lot of time and passion it’s fine, but if it’s just to look good it’ll show
