Extracurriculars Vs. Academics

As a freshman-going-on-sophomore, I have always aimed to attend an ivy league school. However, help from my counselors has proved deficient in my high school.

I was wondering the pros and cons of having a well-rounded schedule inclusive of extracurricular activities such as sports and music versus a schedule geared towards academics. To cater to my AP classes, I have to sacrifice other activities and interests. Although I realize the importance of being well-rounded, I’ve also been advised by teachers to acquire a wholly academic path. My concern is that if my concentration lies on merely academics, would I prove an unlikely candidate to someone who has a schedule with sports, music, or other extracurriculars?
