Extracurriculars

I read somewhere on these boards that colleges like Yale frown upon starting your own clubs, because they think it’s only being done to put on your college app. I know that tonsss of people do this, but I genuinely spearheaded a few things at my school that I’m truly interested in and not for my app (founded The Trib - an independent student political publication; Junior State of America Chapter - Founder, Pres for 3 years so far and I’m a junior … I guess that looks like I started the club and I’m the only member, but we actually have 35 members and I was elected each time against competition). I don’t know if I should believe whatever post I read. Any ideas as to whether or not this could be true?

Don’t believe them, if you have genuinely spearheaded some things, they will see that it’s genuine. Not liking people who started their own clubs? I’ve never heard of anything like that before! Of course, if you started a club on something frivolous such as just playing pick-up sticks all day, obviously it’s not really impressive, but I’m sure you didn’t do that :]
Have fun, good luck!
