This is the last question of the 16 questions ection from Sunday’s Test, I still have no idea what it is even asking

Rick likes to exaggerate about the length of the fish that he catches. If he says it is 3 inches he wills ay tat it is really 4 more than that divided by three. If he says it is 2 inches, it is really two more than that divided by 2.
How bis is the actual fish?
a) 4 inches
b) 8 inches
c) 12 inches
d) 20 inches
e) 24 inches

I may have slightly messed up the wording of the question, if anyone remembers it better please notify me.

Haha, I got a 780 and I cannot understand either, it was a very difficult problem. I am still hoping another Sunday tester will remember it more clearly.

It’s more likely the problem was transcribed incorrectly.

“If he says that it is 3 inches, he will say that it is really 4 more than that divided by 3.”
What does second “that” refer to? How long does he say the fish is?

I’m sure that, given the original question, either of us can easily solve it given enough time.

I think you mean “If the fish is ACTUALLY 3 INCHES, he will say that it is 4 more than that divided by 3”… everything doesn’t make sense right now if we read your sentence

Next time though, just be sure that what you’re saying makes sense so that we are not confused by your wording of the problem. The solution itself was a fairly straightforward system of 2 equations.

Yeah, last questions aren’t necessarily the hardest. Last time I took the SAT, most of my time on a section was spent on one of the middle questions because I was trying to make sure I interpreted it correctly.

@backes101 A lot of people didn’t even try it because they thought it was so bizarre, so you’re definitely not alone. CB has a knack for making questions look harder than they really are.

Yep. A gigantic dragonfly flew through the window during that section and was circling our heads while the proctor panicked so I remember that day well :D

Ok, just pissed off because it was the last math question of the test. Going into this question, I thought that I hit on my 800. Whatever, I’m still taking it like 8 more times…
