I wear eye shadow every day and love the neutral matte palettes (similar to the ones @deb922 and @soozievt linked). I use the lighter/nude pans for daytime and the smokier colors when going out, often with a hint of a separate pot of color to complement whatever I’m wearing. I agree, though, that although many of those palettes are lovely and tempting, I know I’m only going to use a few of them. I do buy some of them, though, because often they are less expensive than purchasing just the individual colors I want.
I wear makeup as a public service.
The only important men and women in my life don’t use the expression “ paint their faces”. They also don’t judge women on whether or not they choose to wear makeup.
If I wore eye shadow on a regular basis I would buy one of those Naked palettes. I think they have a nice range of neutral colors. The way my eyes are eye shadow doesn’t really pop. When I wear it I use a Laura Mercier pencil in a nice neutral.
I used to be one of those who proudly said I didn’t wear makeup. About five years ago through a friend I met a wonderful makeup artist. My feelings about makeup totally switched. I don’t wear much but I know I look so much better with a little color on my face. The woman who did my makeup for my D’s wedding did a great job. I think for me the best make up is one that makes me look good but doesn’t scream I’m wearing a lot of makeup.
@mom60, I give the Urban Decay Naked 2 palette as gifts. Very nice soft neutral colors. I bet that’s the one you are talking about.
I have small eyes. It’s amazing how much better they look after i apply makeup.
My D is very good at applying just a touch of makeup that does accentuate her eyes and looks very natural. She doesn’t wear it every day but to look and feel special she’s happy to wear it. I’m hoping she loves the Urban Decay palate I bought 50% off at Macy’s (otherwise I will happily return it for something she prefers).
@HImom , I think she will love that palette. The colors are soft. Let us know!
