FA and merit aid for International

How much do you think an international student’s chances for admission would go down if they applied for aid at Rice?

Also, what does it take to get merit aid from Rice? What do they look at for merit aid?

I need FA or merit aid to attend Rice and I don’t want this to be a chance thread, I just need to know what Rice looks for and what it would take to get FA and/or merit aid and how applying for FA would affect my chances.

Thanks.

as an international student, FA will decrease your chances of getting in. Not sure how much (as it depends on the market, the endowment and who else applies)

The merit aid criteria is here

[Rice University | Prospective Students](<a href=“Office of Admission | Rice University”>Office of Admission | Rice University)

^It says ‘scholar-athlete’ as one of the things past recipients got merit aid for. Now, do you need to be a recruited athlete to get this kind of merit aid or can you just be a regular scholar-athlete who is not recruited?

I play really competitive baseball but I am not good enough for Division I or Rice’s baseball team (which is one of the best in the US year in and year out). So, I have no chance of getting recruited for baseball. Could I still get this kind of merit aid? Unfortunately, I doubt that I would get aid for any of those other criteria as I’m sure Rice’s applicants are much more qualified in those fields.

that is not sport based

Do you know how many of each they give out? I know that applying for FA significantly lowers my chances of getting in, but if they give out a bunch of those above scholarships then I could perhaps try my luck and not apply for FA and just try to get those merit scholarships.

OR, is there a way that I can tell Rice that ‘I don’t necessarily need aid if I get a merit scholarship’?

Also, would I be competing with US Students that are studying outside of the US from those scholarships that you posted above?

Its like 4 or something. There are not very many

Merit aid automatically replaces FA

If you need FA, you got to apply for it. It is very hard to get a merit scholarship as an intl student, so I would not recommend trying your luck on them
