FA for 2nd year but not 1st year

We will not apply FA when apply ED this year, we got the estimate from cmu, it’s not much, we sure we can afford it w/o any FA.
But, my husband is thinking seriously about retirement next year because of health issue.

My question:
If we don’t apply for FA for ED this year and my husband take retirement next year, will my kid able to apply for FA when he’s a sophomore in college?

Thank you.

The answer is yes.

Absolutely-- each year is unrelated to the next. Win the lottery, no aid the next year!

CMU also has an “extenuating circumstance” form and a “reduced income” form…aid can be adjusted if there are unusual changes to your income level.

GO ahead and retire-- ! You’ll get more aid possibly-- remember, CMU does not promise to meet unmet need. At very least, if there’s an EFC less than COA, student will be eligible for subsidized loans and work study.

mom2012 - Thanks. “retire or not”, it’s the topic on our dinning table recently. Honestly, I don’t want him go retire and stay at home, unless he has plan for his after retire life. But, in fact, after the injury few years ago, I knew, he needs rest.
