FAA Closing Air Space around El Paso - anyone know why?

I haven’t even seen speculation about why this could be happening? Have you heard anything?

The closure has been lifted. Unknown why they put it in place or why it was so quickly lifted!

Wow, I thought they said it was for 10 days? Glad whatever it was actually wasn’t!

They did say for 10 days. The changed their mind about 10 hours later. :woman_gesturing_no:

Wouldn’t it have been better to announce this a day at a time? Air space will be closed for 24 hours - Ok. Airspace will be closed for 10 days - people start to freak out, speculate and worry.

It sounds like now it was our own military operating our drones too close to an airport.

This report may be unsubstantiated but I’m going to guess that this is the answer

There is still a lot of speculation going on by El Paso officials as to why they closed the airport, apparently they were not told in advance. Mexico is saying “huh?” - no one is quite sure who made the decision or why…..weird stuff.

Feds say Mexican cartels. Others saying U.S. Military.

I just hate that if I had had flights there, I would have scrambled to change/cancel/refund everything and then it would be lifted so quickly. Not that I had any such thing. But probably some people did!!

This all sounds more and more like a bunch of misfits with high tech that have no idea how to communicate OR think they are so powerful in their positions they don’t need to communicate down the line. Maybe I’m misreading, but this seems to happen in every single federal department these days.

Fishy at the start calling for the closure, fishy at the end opening it back up. At least I can’t help but feel “fishy”.

Not cartels.

The unexpected but brief airspace closure in the Texas border city of El Paso stemmed from disagreements between the Federal Aviation Administration and Pentagon officials over drone-related tests, multiple sources close to the matter told CBS News.

Yes - this is what I keep thinking. I could not operate like this in the private sector. Doesn’t the left hand know what the right hand is doing? (Probably not the best phrase to use . . .)

This is a slightly different take on what occurred. Make of the differences what you will.

I’m not sure why the feds don’t own it vs blaming others….

The whole story is out and it is sadly hilariously - not miscommunication but actual willful misdirection (lies) because of baffoonery!
