what the heck is this?
It looks like my friends have this either in photos or on their wall- but it also looks like a bot/spam

It’s spam/bogus.

Just spam. There are so many stupid things like that on FB, and so many sketchy apps. I just have a policy of not participating in any apps or downloads whatsoever.

I recommend that you mark it as spam. Facebook does seem to address these if enough users mark them as spam, in my experience.

can you mark it as spam without clicking on it?
oh good it looks like it is gone.

I never click on any facebook ads or any links asking a question. Facebook is very corrupt and cannot be trusted with personal information. But then what should we expect from a company founded by a guy who stole the idea from two students who hired him to do work for them.

I hope I can adequately explain how to mark something as spam.

When an item shows up in your newsfeed, if you click on the empty space to the right of the item, a list of possible actions appears. One of those is to report an item as spam. You do not click on the item itself, so you dont expose yourself to the spam, but when enough people report it as spam, facebook will investigate. If its gone, it may be because enough people marked it as spam.
