Facebook, iPad, elections... Help!

I just spent an hour trying to block Facebook news feeds from some folks until after the election. I tried on my iPad, on my windows computer, and searched online for instructions.
It used to be easy to ignore people, but I can’t find it now.
I would appreciate it if someone had step by step instructions on how to block cousin Bubba from my news feed and then how to add him back later.

Hover over the right corner opposite the offending friend and a little tab will appear giving you a hide option. I’ve done it to a bunch of people.

That only seems to hide the individual post if I’m doing what I think you are suggesting. Next time BubbaSue posts, there’s her new stuff.

After you do that you should see a thing about managing what you see from the person, click unsubscribe.

hover over the right, and hit “hide”

then, click “change what updates you get from person’s name” and click “unsubscribe”

that should do it.

edit: opened too many threads at once… looks like electronblue beat me to it

I don’t see any of those choices when I hover… Are you using an iPad?

Except I tried it on my regular windows computer and the hide hover stuff isn’t showing up. Maybe the gods think I need to stop posting …

Hover over it and select “important updates only”. Works like a charm :)

How does FB decide what’s an “important update”?

I did the same thing but the “important updates only” still let the stuff through and it seemed to come through on the iPad even if I had set the stop on the computer. You can only do the setting on the computer. The iPad does not have that capability. So I ended up having to unsubscribe completely from the settings that show up after you select hide. They show up right below the person’s post. . I will try to remember to go out to see if anything I am interested in is on their page, like family pics. But who knows. I really wish people would keep the politics and religion to themselves.

I need to do this. It’s seriously making me dislike some people!

Yes, and if a friend ‘likes’ a candidate, I am getting messages from the candidate in my feed.

You might need to actually click on “hide post” (and this doesn’t show up on all mobile or iPad apps) and then you get a secondary list where you can unsubscribe from that person’s posts. I’m having to do this, too.

[url=<a href="How to Block Annoying Political Posts on Facebook[/url] a solution from Lifehacker, but it’s not quick and easy.

No clue, but it certainly seeems that they dont consider forwarded stuff or links to websites, etc as “important” . Yay.

I would like to only send my political posts to my like- minded friends. I hate the idea that my comments shoot off in all directions. The others don’t want to see my stuff, I sure don’t want to see theirs, but I would like to be able to post comments without it being sent everywhere.

As soccerguy said, you should see this appear in place of the post when you click “hide.” Click on "Change what updates you get from ____ , then look at the bottom of that list and click “unsubscribe.”

MD Mom, you can create a group of people who are like minded and with whom you wish to share commentary. Then when you post just select that group to see it. It is one of the drop down choices in the posting box.

All my life, until I joined Facebook before the last presidential election, i happily had absolutely no idea what the political views of most of my friends, acquaintances and extended family were. I wish I could return to those days.

My friends on Facebook are a mix; my friends I life mostly agree with me. There are a couple of outliers.
