Hello!

I have a question about the use of Facebook. Do you think Facebook has a power of addiction which leads to the lower GPA of a typical college student?

It has the power to keep you from doing anything you need to do if you let it. Limiting your exposure could do nothing but help, lol. When talking about GPA in general it could be anything, addictive sites like Facebook reduce your studying time.

Depends on what you use Facebook for. I don’t use my Facebook for anything except to join groups for my classes (usually, someone in the class will make a group, and then it’s pretty much like one big study group where we help each other out) They’re rather helpful, especially if someone in the group has had a professor before for another class and is familiar with what kind of test questions the professor would likely focus on, and also someone will make a Google Doc study guide before an exam, post the link in the group, and those of us who are active in the group contribute to the study guide.

It certainly has the potential to. But if used in moderation, and only AFTER you’re done with studying/homework for the night, there’s nothing wrong with it.

One thing I’ve found from past experience, is that if you get home for the day with plans to study or do homework, then sit down to get on facebook for “just a little bit,” that little bit can sometimes turn into the entire night. Time flies sometimes.

Anymore, I don’t get on facebook until I’m done studying/doing homework for the night.

Yes, it is an excellent way to procrastinate. I would say if you haven’t had problems in high school, then you will definitely be fine in college.

If you had problems with Facebook and spending too much time on it during high school, definitely try to kick the habit sooner than later. There are great apps for Chrome and Firefox that can help. I briefly used on that would lock you out of certain websites for a certain period of time. Either way, it really depends on the person.

Facebook does pull you in if you let it. Just as long as you stay disciplined and not let it basically ‘control’ you like it does to some people, it shouldn’t be a problem.

not if you dont have friends :D
