Do a search for The Crock Pot Girls page - these 3 young women decided on August 20 to start a Facebook page dedicated to crockpot recipes. Today, they reached 1 million people fans!!! CRAZY!!!

They have been trying to put together a website as a result of the FB page, but can’t hardly move fast enough on that. A local news (where ever they are from) printed an article about them and the site almost immediately crashed with traffic.

The best part? Look on the discussion link on their FB page - recipe after recipe using the coveted CROCKPOT!!!

I had no idea! I “liked” them several days ago. Grabbed several recipes that look good. Didn’t know it was such a big “thing” til today when I saw that about 20 of my friends had also liked them. I guess none of us like cooking :-).

I’m interested in the “Dump” recipes. You take a gallon ziplock bag, put some pieces of chicken in it, “dump” in some various recipe ingredients (examples include: Sticky Chicken, Garlic Chicken, etc.) then freeze the bags. When you need a crockpot meal simply take the ziploc out of the freezer the night before, dump it in the crockpot in the morning and turn the crockpot on! Dinner’s ready!

That sounds great for the winter months, especially on days where I have a long day at work and come home exhausted.

Though, after enduring more than 60 days of over 100 degree temps this year, I am finding it hard to imagine cold weather. It seems like a foreign concept. When I look at the extended forecast and see nothing but 7 days of bright yellow suns and temps of 107, 104, 105, etc., I start to believe that this will never change…

Thanks for the tip about the facebook page.

Me too! I am so sick of this heat. We had a power cut yesterday evening and it was still over 100 degree outside with no breeze at all. We ended up driving into town to have ice cream just to cool off a bit. Were worried it would last all night as it was some big substation problem. We are forecast to have daytime highs in the 80s several days next week - I don’t think I have ever been so excited by a weather forecast!

When I read this thread yesterday, my first thought was “not ready to even think about crockpots in this heat”. But my son-in-law to be has been hinting that he would really like the crockpot cauliflower curry again, so maybe I need to go find crockpot curry recipe book and dig out the crockpot when next they are coming.

I used to think I wouldn’t use the crockpot in the summer cause a hot meal just didn’t sound the best - plus it actually can heat up the kitchen a bit. This summer a couple of times, I just plugged the crockpot in in the basement - and still appreciated pulled pork when I arrived home!

My D1 who is freshly out on her own uses her crockpot 1-2 times a week. Makes me smile.

This is almost enough to revive my facebook account that I deactivated a couple of years ago. I am a huge crockpot devotee’. You all are making it awfully tempting…especially the ziplock freezer-dump recipes.

Edit to note: Yippie!! I just googled them and you don’t have to log onto facebook to see their page or the discussions where people are posting recipes.

The “dump” recipes are for me - just exactly what I need! I can imagine putting the bags together in bulk and filling my freezer.

I use my crockpot a lot, except that for some reason I don’t use it in the summer. But I shy away from recipes that require doing anything to the ingredients, like browning meat, before they go in the pot.

blueiguana, They are working on getting a website running soon, so you can wait for that.

Be careful though - the new crockpots get a lot hotter and can cook off all the liquid a lot faster than some of us are used to! Might not want to leave it the first time you try a new recipe.

Yes, thanks…I found the website. Already have it on my favorites!! This is going to be FUN!

Good to note that new recipes have to be watched. Older ones that were developed for the older crockpots often need to be adjusted. I have a few like this. You never know when someone shares if they have adjusted the recipe or not.

Thanks for this thread. My daughter is living off campus now and her brother has told her that crock pot cooking is the way to go. I sent her (and him) a link to the Crock Pot Girls this morning and will give her our smaller crock pot. This should give her some much needed flexibility in a busy schedule.

Is there a specific section for the ‘dump’ recipes? I looked a bit but didn’t seen them. I’m interested as well. A google search just brought me to this thread. :)
