“Staff said to call lack of intimate sharing `context collapse’ … Facebook Inc. is working to combat a decline in people sharing original, personal content, the fuel that helps power the money machine at the heart of its social network, according to people familiar with the matter.” …
Come on, people! Why not get personal, REAL personal? Duh.
A lot of my newsfeed is from businesses or causes that I’ve chosen to follow (and am interested in what they have to say), and a lot is now from media sources (the Atlantic, NYTimes, etc) where again I like being exposed to the content. Only some of it is actually the content from my friends, and there I’ve carefully curated who I follow.
Facebook is the one who encouraged following of media sources with the " trending news" ticker and then “rewarded” me by suggesting other businesses or stories I might be interested in, so too bad that now Facebook isn’t just people-sharing-personal-content.
@Pizzagirl I’ve noticed that too. It has turned me off. I’m now a “check it every few days” user bc of all the ads and “sharing” of ads. If I look up quilt supplies on the Internet, suddenly Facebook (and CC:) show me all about quilting.
I get really tired of all the memes. I miss the days when my friends shared more personal, family info. Also sick of all the political crap they post. It goes both days. Some days I want to put them on opposite sides and make them play Red Rover.
