Facebook

I can’t figure how to get it on my iPad. It shows up as a zip file and asks where to download it. I choose Pages. So I go to that icon on my desktop and I see it. When I click on it, nothing happens. If you use your iPad, where do you put the Download?

^^^ You can’t.

Ok thanks, I’ll go to my computer then and do it.

(Facebook: ‘Malicious actors’ used its tools to discover identities and collect data on a massive global scale)

It was a search function that they disabled today. Yes, today!

Was facebook naive and trusting of the open web? Careless and utterly idiotic with others’ info? Later than your latest friend to realize that, ooops, they might have to do something? Yes, yes, and yes.

No, sorry for being cynical, but I believe they were intentionally careless to allow outsiders collect data. One of former FB high ranking employees was cited in one of articles earlier that he repeatedly brought the lax security to senior management attention to be told, it is best not to know about it. FB naive? No way.

Facebook sent a doctor on a secret mission to ask hospitals to share patient data

What next?

I wonder how Zuckerberg SF General Hospital responded to that? Remember the thread talking about naming a school after a creepy person because they gave a lot of $$?

^That is all sorts of wrong.

Not easy to delete a FB account,

Remember that the search function they disabled today only allowed them to see your public facing data. I’ve actually used that function to find people. My public facing FB info is very limited. Just enough so someone who knew me in the past can tell it is me.

Lol. Back in the day, one of my classmates told a story how he tried to delete his FB account. Nothing worked until he wrote a post saying that MZ was of the devil and all FB users would burn in hell. That got the account deleted quickly!

Ha. They are probably still providing his info to marketers to this day, though.

Hopefully, not much good it does if the data is 10 years old.
I am less concerned with what people can see about me than what FB collects about me. I am waiting to see if Fb knows I just got back from a trip. It hasn’t updated my trips yet. If it knows in spite of all my efforts to go incognito, I’ll have to delete my account.

Senators are doing a decent job questioning FB. I expected they would bungle up since tech may be be their strength.

^I wonder how much they will do/question with regards to protecting the consumer vs. protecting Facebook.

There are some who argue that the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau has too much power “against” businesses. Will some Senators make the same argument?

I felt many of the senators questions showed their ignorance of AI and internet communications

Igloo, have you turned off location services for FB on your phone? Undo what this is telling you to do…

@greenwitch I removed FB app from my phone. So far so good. It doesn’t know I took a trip last week.

@bookworm I heard one senator. I thought he was good. He asked if FB is tracking people on and off FB and elaborate that it needs to have an opt in for privacy rather than opt out. Also, brought up the need to regulate.

https://finance.yahoo.com/news/zuckerberg-hedges-facebook-tracks-214550221.html

I think it’s an excellent questioning. This is exactly what I want to know. I get that what I do on FB, they own it but not offline. They shouldn’t own it.

For reasons I understand, MZ answers were too literal and disingenuous. One senator asked about the number of data categories collected on a user. He acted like he didn’t quite understand what she meant. She was asking about the number of data points/fields collected: race, sex, location, job title, … All of which are used to by FB to direct advertising.
