Facebook

I suspected in advance of MZ’s testimony that he would count on the technological ignorance of the senpators, many of whom are older and not able to properly verbalize their concerns.

It seems my suspicions were correct, and yes, his answers were disingenuous.

Has anyone ever had their facebook account hacked/hijacked? A friend is going through that right now. It’s been taken over by someone else, name and profile photo changed. Trying to get it dealt with has been frustrating/impossible. Trying to get any help/response is a joke. The fact that facebook is so unresponsive and makes it impossible to reach a real person reinforces the feeling that the company cares little about their users and their users’ privacy, security, and experience.

Also, what is the motivation of doing this hijacking? The end game? What are they looking to accomplish?

^Take it to Twitter to complain! That will get their attention.

Yikes alright. They also read your private messages. I thought people needed a warrant to read those.

More on smart gadgets:

In the same vein, Amazon is recording all your conversations to (? with) Alexa.

I would never EVER install Alexa or a similar item in my house. I’m not too lazy to look something up, which is very easy today with all of the knowledge at our disposal. I just can’t imagine selling the sanctity of my home just to be able to say, “Alexa, order some trash bags. And when is my dentist appointment?”

Expect the rise of a new cottage industry that will be peddling their “we protect you from your gadgets snooping on you” stuff.

And from that BBC article… who needs a “smart” toothbrush or a “smart” sex toy!!! Really?! Lol.

Our recent mattress purchase came with Sleeptracker which is a device connected to the internet. We don’t use it. I mean, really, what am I going to do with that data? I don’t get the current obsession with tracking every component of our lives.

We love our Alexa/Echo. If Amazon is listening in on us they must get awfully bored.

How is this fair or right?

^I wonder if when you sign up for Facebook you give it permissions to do so.

Either way it doesn’t seem right…

Obviously not. According to the article, they still track you even if you don’t sign up for a FB account. If you have an account, you have an option to opt out if you try hard enough. If you don’t have an account, you can’t opt out since you don’t have an account.

What a scummy practice. I make it a rule never to buy anything advertised to me. I have to go find it. I don’t know if it helps anything but it makes me feel better.

Introducing a bill to regulate FB.

Facebook as fake reviews breeding grounds:

2/3 of reviews on some products were phony. Rating dropped from 4.4 to 2.6 when filtered phony reviews out.

FB made the word “friend” dirty for me.
