so my mother comes home from the office after gabbing with her co-worker whose daughter is deciding undergrad too…

apparently, she told my mother that it’s best to hold out on contact with universities, XYZ. Because they want to attract you and therefore send you more money. It’s kind of like the silent treatment except in terms of colleges.

is this fact or fiction? b/c I’m still deciding btw. UPenn M&T, Columbia, JHU, & Olin College

Thanks in advance for the feedback. (please dont’ criticize my stupid question) :D

To elaborate a little, College XYZ has a limited amount of funding. They offer it to a number of students. When the funding is gone it doesn’t matter how attractive you are as a student - they have no funding left to give you.

Are you saying that it’s best not to give your final decision until the last minute?

Well, you can always try it to prove how right or wrong the co-worker is.

Some lower tier schools might do this - especially if a student is especially desirable.

However, it’s best just to try it and see. Then later on your family can’t nag at you for possibly missing out on more money. So, give your decision on April 30/May 1.
