Faculty Quality---Academic Reputation: What is the difference?

In some of my research, I came across some comparisons of colleges based on Faculty Quality and Academic Reputation. I was surprised by this as I’ve not seen them rated differently. Are they one and the same or not?

What do you think is meant by Faculty Quality? What do you think is meant by Academic Reputation? Can a college have one without the other? How does this play into the college search process?

Peer Assessment. :D

Well, at least when you ask academics to rate colleges (which is what PA does), they’ll look at criteria visible and important to them.

Academic reputation is derived first and foremost by faculties (and this reputation mainly comes from scholarly research). A strong student body helps with academic reputation, but it’s mainly the faculty and the academic programs they run that attract the strong students.

I’ve most often seen “faculty quality” measured through the research productivity of the faculty. That of course totally ignores teaching and introduces some issues, but it’s a proxy.

“Academic reputation” seems to be most often measured by some form of peer assessment.
