<p>Does anyone know how involved faculty are in student life outside the classroom? Do most of them live near campus?</p>

<p>D has been to prof’s houses for dinner with the whole class. Also, Amherst has a program where 4-6 of you in a class can invite a prof out to dinner and the school pays for it all!</p>

<p>Sorry to be negative, but I’m wondering whether TYPO is Amherst’s attempt to compete with other schools of its size where faculty regularly ask students to babysit for them and invite not necessarily the whole class, but specific students out to lunch with them?</p>
<p>People do get asked to babysit, petsit, and go out to dinner by professors. It doesn’t happen to everyone, but it happens a lot. One girl in my German class last semester was an everyday babysitter for my prof.</p>
