Faculty

2,497 non-medical, 10,674 medical

Can anyone explain this to me? I know virtually nothing about medicine.

The medical school has a huge “faculty” by virtue of its affiliation with several large hospitals – Brigham & Womens, Mass General, etc. All the staff physicians and Ph.D. researchers at those hospitals are also granted faculty status at Harvard Medical School.

gotcha…

The medical school is only of the medical faculties. There is HSDM and HSPH. HSPH’s immunology, complex disease, biostats, and epidemiology departments have their own faculty members in the hospitals. I’d say it is about even in terms of size with the Medical School.
