Fading Creams...do any of them work? what about cost?

buying 2 …one for the spouse…

that could spell trouble…

come on mom2 we will join nymom. thanks swimcats

come on mom2 we will join nymom.

?? What did I miss?

I don’t know if the Ambi works as I haven’t tried it yet. But in the magazine or website I read about it, the write-up said that it does work quite well and is much cheaper than some alternatives.

Does it smell? At all? I can’t use anything with odor. I’d get rid of my age spots and trade for a migraine. I’ve had laser done on my face and it worked very well. Lightening chemical peels work well too, but don’t go as deep as I’d like, and I’m kind of chicken to get the deeper peels.

My mom always thought my freckles were cute. I’m sure that’s because she never had any. Now I don’t have freckles, just horrid age spots. This summer I was relying on my foundation with SPF15 or something and I’ve got them much worse than previous summers when I slathered my face in SPF 50.

The Ponds reviews all say it has a scent. it is the only thing making me a little hesitant to order it as so many things aggravate my rosacea - though I could just use it on my hands I guess.

swimcatsmom,

I bought the Ponds Clarant B3 a few months ago when I first heard about it in a thread here on CC. I read the reviews first and I almost didn’t buy it because people said that it had a scent. I really dislike products with a scent so I fully expected to hate this stuff but I was encouraged by the reviews that said that it really works to fade age spots on the face.

It does have a very light scent but it fades quickly once it’s rubbed in. It doesn’t bother me at all and I’m very sensitive to odors. And it’s not the least bit greasy – it’s very light. I have rosacea, too, and I haven’t seen any adverse effects. It doesn’t aggravate my skin or cause flareups.

ROC Multi-Correction Night Cream gets great reviews and is in drug stores for about $25. Real Simple magazine rates it highly.

Thank you so much patsmom. I will go ahead and order some. If it does aggravate my face i can always try it on some other blotchy areas.

edited to add - went ahead and ordered it. They are probably wondering why the big rush on this stuff at Amazon!

The best treatment for brown spots and discoloration is the light therapy laser treatment administered by a dermatologist, followed by consistent use of sunscreen. . Over the counter face creams dont contain enough Hydroquinone to be effective.

I use a fairly unusual product from Decleor. It’s a once-weekly mask - a product infused fabric mask that I wear for about 10-15 minutes. After removing it, I massage in any product left on my face. It has made my complexion noticeably brighter and more even, minimizing dark spots. I have fair, sensitive skin (blonde/blue eyes) and it not irritating, in fact, it seems rather soothing - although I look pretty scary when wearing it. They are pricey - about $10 each, but it’s a salon-quality product and worth it, IMO

It is also available on Amazon for a little less $:

For what it’s worth, my dad removed age spots from his face by using Castor oil on the spots every day. I have been meaning to try it on my hands, but never remember to buy it.

Hydroquinone has been banned in Europe, and the FDA proposed a ban in 2006 as it is a potential carcinogen. It can also cause even darker hyperpigmentations depending on your skin tone.

Oh, MAN!!!

Bumping this up to see what people think of the Ponds cream. I have been using it on my hands and see a definite improvement in the brown spots. Not gone, but definitely faded and less obvious. Makes me happy as my hands were always one of my better features and I hated the increasing brown spots and blotches.

Can’t help wondering what the heck is in the stuff to make it so effective though.

Gourmetmom - that mask looks great! I am trying to put together some simple ways to relax each day and it seems like that mask, with a cup of green tea and Pablo Casals playing in the background, would be perfect for one day of the week.

I have been using Perricone’s vitamin C cream and I think my complexion is a little more even. Like some other posters, I have the freckled skin of a foolish irish girl who spent way too many hours in the sun.

I bit the bullet and went to Sephora yesterday. I asked the girl which product gets the most positive feedback for fading age spots and said that Clinique Even Better is by far the best. So I bought it at 73 dollars. Started using it last night so I will keep you posted after a few weeks.

Workinprogress-I have the same abused Irish girl skin. Should do something!

I thought we were related! :)

And if I recall, we both married nutty exercise fanatics!

I try to use the Decleor mask every Sunday night…

On a related issue, the single most helpful at-home treatment, bar none, is this facial steamer:

[Amazon.com: Secura Hot & Cool Facial Steamer Micro-fine Mist Sauna w/ Essence Oil and Herbal Therapy: Beauty](http://www.amazon.com/Secura-Steamer-Micro-fine-Essence-Therapy/dp/B004ML689A/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1347844681&sr=8-3&keywords=facial+steamer)

I use it for 3-5 minutes almost every night. Not only does it keep my skin clearer - almost no clogged/enlarged pores, but it also seems to make the treatments more effective by opening the pores to let the treatment penetrate more deeply. Tonight, I’ll steam for a few minutes, then apply the mask.

Update…

I bought both the Ambi cream and the Ponds Clarant cream. Since I’m inpatient, I applied in the morning, couple of times mid-day, and at night.

It’s only been two weeks, but the age spot on my hand is nearly gone…and it was quite brown before…about the color of an old penny.

The first week or so, I thought I might be wasting my time. But, then suddenly obvious progress began being made.

:)
