Ugh…an age spot has appeared on my hand (ok…guilty of vanity…lol). I want to get rid of IT and get rid of any others that decide to show up!

Do I have to spend serious coin on a pricey cream or are there less expensive creams that do the job? If so, which ones REALLY work!??!! And how long do they take to “work”?

My mom had a number of these spots on her hands and lower legs, and after awhile, they started showing up on her forehead (make-up did minimize), but I would like to be more pro-active and avoid/get rid of them as they show up.

As an aside…I use sunscreen and haven’t had a “good tan” in decades (long gone are the days of Baby Oil and the Beach). Therefore, I don’t think this is the result of a “summer tan” that has now faded.

I’m interested in the answer to this, as well. I don’t have age spots on my hands but do have uneven brown areas on my cheeks that get more noticeable in the summer, regardless of how much sunblock I use. I also have a series of burn marks on the inside of my arm (from using a heat gun carelessly).
I read somewhere that Bio Oil was a good remedy and to use it twice a day. I’ve only been using it for about three weeks. Some of the milder burn marks are fading a bit but they may have been doing that on their own anyway.

Like you, mom2, I can’t spend a fortune on this. My dermatologist prescribed retin a but it’s 150 dollars to fill it.

I’m wondering if there is a certain ingredient that I should be looking for in a cream that works? And if so, is there a certain % that the cream should contain?

I use skin care products from a site called Make Up Artists Choice. Good prices, and very responsive to questions with help and recommendations. Super fast shipping. I used their peels and fade jel for melasma on my face, and it did a great job.

The one you might be thinking about is probably Ambi-it’s not expensive and can be found at places like Walgreens. I have it but haven’t tried it yet. I’ve also read that plain lemon juice works. The way I understand age spots happen is that they are a result of sun exposure from decades ago-when people our age would have been running around without sunscreen. I’m not real happy about them.

Hydroquinone, a dermatologist recommended ingredient to safely fade dark spots
Alpha hydroxy acid, to help enhance results
Vitamin E, to help soften and smooth skin

I agree this must be from sun exposure decades ago. I don’t spend a lot of time in the sun without sunscreen and a visor. I used to run a lot about 15 years ago, but was absolutely fanatical about sunscreen then. I didn’t want to end up like a lot of the older female runners with gnarly, leathery skin who I would see on the trails.

I had some brown spots on my legs frozen off by the dermatologist. They got darker for a while after the treatment, but then they disappeared completely after a few weeks. Laser removal would no doubt do the same thing.

As a redhead, I have had light freckles all my life, despite usually using sunscreen. I think the age spots are blending in!

I don’t really notice them, the burns I get from cooking & the scratches I get from gardening are much more visible. ( yes I wear gloves, but somethings go through)

I’ve been using retin a, but the artists choice line looks good.
I can’t stand the leathery look, and I think being tan just makes the wrinkles more noticeable. ( makes me feel better about never tanning! ;))

I had two spots on my face removed by a dermatologist earlier this year where he suspected skin cancer. Now there are red spots there, which are just as noticeable as the ones he removed. I cover them up pretty much with this stuff: [Age Defense BB Cream Broad Spectrum SPF 30 | Protect & Prevent | De-Aging | Clinique](<a href=“Age Defense BB Cream Broad Spectrum SPF 30 | Clinique”>Age Defense BB Cream Broad Spectrum SPF 30 | Clinique) Bonus - it has an SPF of 30. I have pretty freckly skin and as a teen in the 70’s went unprotected for many years before getting smart about sun protection. :(

It was Ponds Clarant B3 that people were saying did the best in reducing age spots. i need to order it on line because I can’t find it in the store.

The only issue with Hydroquinone is that you have to keep using it or they come back. It does fade the spots pretty quickly initially. A peel would work well for longer results.

Amazon has it. Don’t know how the price compares to buying it in a store, but if you have Amazon prime at least shipping would be free. I may try it myself. Wonder if my rosacea would tolerate it if I use it on my face.

I bought the Ponds cream from Amazon in May. It comes in a pack of two 7-oz containers for $15. I got the Normal to Dry because I am using it only on my hands. My face has no age spots. I have tried to use it every night at bedtime, but have forgotten a lot of nights. The age spots on my hands have definitely faded. I need to be better about using it to see whether I can get rid of them completely.

The cream is very nice, it is light and easily absorbed.
