If we take the Tuition and Fees deduction for 2009, it reduces our Adjusted Gross Income, which I believe is the number FAFSA asks for. However, when DH and I are asked to list our separate incomes from work, the total of those 2 numbers will of course not include that deduction; therefore, the sum of our 2 incomes will be more than the total AGI. Is this going to seem like an inconsistency? How should we handle this?

Many of us have AGIs that are less than our earned incomes. Don’t worry about this.

^^And some of us have AGIs that are higher than the combined W-2 earned income.^^

I’m sure ours have never matched up. Last year we took the tuition and fees deduction and that was not brought up as an issue.

Thanks. Upon further investigation, it looks like the FAFSA formula adds back the deduction to arrive at W2 wages, so they’ll figure it out.
