So does Fafsa go by age or by year of education you are at?

Say I take a gap year, will I still be able to apply for fafsa for all four years? Or just the first three since technically I’m a year behind?

You can apply for FA using FAFSA at any age. Generally, you are eligible for federal aid for twelve full time semesters (six years). State and instititional eligiblity vary, but they generally don’t penalize for skipped years.

You fill out the FAFSA after you get your taxes done. And, you get your taxes done every year. Simple.

If your family, or even your own self, are financing a year abroad. Then, you are in the clear with the FAFSA. But, you would still have to make sure your own (personal) taxes get done.
