FAFSA and tax refund

My S is about to file fafsa application. We have yet to receive our tax refund. Do we list the expected refund as cash in hand or list only the money we have in the bank at the moment without the expected tax refund. Thanks in advance for all the replies

If this is the first time submitting the 2014-15 fafsa, only list assets in hand on the day you submit. If you previously submitted fafsa with estimated numbers, don’t change the asset numbers unless you made an actual error the first time.

Thank you for the reply. This is the first time submitting the fafsa application. He will not list the amount to be refunded by the IRS as you suggested and only take into account the available cash in the bank accounts etc. I thought I read somewhere in this forum in the past that some fafsa applicants are awaiting the IRS refund to use it on bills that had to be paid before applying for fafsa. So as I understand even as the 1040 tax forms are filed but not yet received the refund that is due from IRS we do not take that amount as cash in hand. Thanks once again.

FAFSA only take a snap shot of your account balance at the data of application. It does not matter if you need to pay a tax or get a refund.

Trying to boost your post count, billcsho?

I don’t need to boost my post count as I am already 10x more than you.
There was a problem that I could not post and I click a couple time to retry and still failed. I gave up on it and then I found it double posted a couple hours later.
