CSS schools know what the potential need is. They have (@Kelsmom can verify) been given some guidance on Pell eligibility. The data on the Profile would help the schools determine that…even at need aware schools.

In my day job, I’m an IT project manager. This part quoted above is just ridiculous. You know what they’re doing? A prior boss of mine many moons ago used the terms “MSU” and “GSD.”
Right now, they are MSU’ing. Making stuff up. Or, well, the way my boss put it was “making ____ up” (you fill in the blank).
What’s GSD? Get stuff done. Or “Get ____ done.”
There’s NO STINKING WAY that this should have gone live this academic year for Fall 2024. It’s not ready. WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU’RE STILL TESTING VARIOUS VENDOR SYSTEMS?! WHAT THE EVER LOVING HECK?!
MY DAUGHTER IS SUPPOSED TO START COLLEGE THIS AUGUST AND YOU CAN’T GET YOUR ACT TOGETHER ENOUGH SO THAT WE CAN EVEN APPLY FOR STUDENT LOANS, FOR GOD’S SAKE!
GET YOUR ACT TOGETHER! GET STUFF DONE! STOP MAKING STUFF UP! All of you at the federal government and your contractors who you’ve been working with on this for 2-3 years have TOTALLY MESSED IT ALL UP!
Listen up, Uncle Sam…you should have this all tested and ready for prime time months ago…like 6 months ago. You shouldn’t be still trying to figure out your production system now, now that it’s live.
And all of your daily/nightly ‘system updates’ to the FAFSA website in January? Total pain in the butt. You know what that tells me? You weren’t ready by the deadline. So you went with the lousy system that you had cludged together and worked on patches & fixes requiring multiple hours of downtime every night.
Total incompetence. Unacceptable.

I agree that this is ridiculous and taking way too long to get right.
But…your daughter can’t apply for the federally funded student loans yet anyway. That comes much later. @kelsmom
Correct. There is plenty of time for all financial aid to be processed before the school year (July 1 is the earliest a 2024-25 loan can even be originated). The timeline for making decisions about colleges based on financial aid packages is definitely impacted, but aid itself will be processed in a timely manner (thanks to the hard working financial aid staff at colleges).
