FAFSA, do you apply before or after getting accepted?

Hello I have a question, I am applying for Depaul University and the University of Miami, I have yet to send in my application, because they are due before Feb 1. But since I live in Illinois the money for financial aid is on first come basis, so my question is if I am supposed to apply to FAFSA even though I haven’t been accepted or sent in my application yet?
Or am I supposed to do it afterwards, but if I do it after I fear that there may not be enough money for me to receive.

Yes, you have to apply before being accepted.

Incidently, you can not submit the FAFSA until after Jan. 1st, but please get familiar with all the steps required for financial aid at each school, and for the state of Illinois:

You and one of your parents can apply for your FAFSA PIN numbers now, as those can take a few days to come through, and start gathering the necessary year-end info.
