fafsa efc questions

How do we know our EFC number and does it change with each university?
I tried to log inot FAFSA and the only info it gives us, is we do not qualify for Pell Grant.
My dad makes more than 250,000 so we are not expecting any aid but…we can hope.

Hi,

You will get a SAR report that will have your EFC on it. I can tell you from personal experience that with an income of over $250k, you will not qualify for any aid…not even at an ivy unless you’ll have a couple of siblings in college at the same time.

Your EFC will exceed the cost of virtually any college. However, you will be able to take out a Stafford unsubsidized loan if you’d like. As a freshman, you can borrow up to $5500.

Did you apply to any schools that might give you a scholarship for your stats? If so, that will be “like” aid. :)

And the EFC does not change with each school, BUT some private schools will also use the CSS Profile or their own financial aid form to adjust the expected FA. But as Mom2CK stated, with $250K of income, don’t expect anything. Look for merit scholarships.

Sorry to bump an old topic, but in a similar situation. If a sibling will start college three years after we have a pair (possibly two) of medically-expensive grandparents dependent on us could we expect any aid at all?

^^^^ Actually, this seems like a completely different topic. You should start a new thread, it’s an interesting question.
