FAFSA no longer recognizing my Perm Resid ID (Alien Registration #)

I’m a non-traditional student who is looking to go back to school. I’ve toyed with the idea before and have successfully completed FAFSAs in the past without issue, most recently as 2014.

I’ve been a Perm Resident of the US for 35 yrs. I’ve used my (original) I-551 ID for every job I have ever had. That’s almost a 30 yr. span of time without incident.

In the era of the current Administration/climate around immigration, is there any idea if the source that FAFSA uses to verify citizenship status has been changed when completing the Form?

Have you ever renewed your green card? It’s only valid for 10 years I believe.

I believe FAFSA cross references the SSA Social Security Administration database.

When you made your FSA ID, were there any issues? Your FAFSA in 2014 would have used a PIN to sign, now you need a FSA ID (username and password).

FAFSA does cross-reference SSA. You’ll just need to provide the school with proof of your permanent residency (you’ll have to show them the valid card). You should also visit your nearest SSA office to make sure everything is updated in their database with your most recent information (to keep a mismatch from happening in the future).
