I need someone to seriously break this down for me. I have been researching for over 2 hours to no avail. I got a estimation number of 09178 as an EFC as well as eligibility for 5,500 Direct Stafford Loan Estimate. I have read about the Stafford loan, and I don’t understand it. I really want to know if this is a good or bad number, whether I am eligible for good aid, and how much estimation wise I would need to pay. I have applied to Brown, BU, have gotten into Providence College, applied to Northeastern and a couple of others. I’m trying to give as much info as possible, so someone can help me figure this out. I panic a lot and stress is pretty clear in my message. If someone could help me out it would be IMMENSELY appreciated. Thanks for reading.

This means that you have an Federal Expected Family contribution of $9,178 . This is what your parents will have to pay for your education according to the federal methodology. This number can change if you are applying to a school(s) that use the CSS profile or their own forms to distribute institutional aid.

Brown requires the CSS profile & the Noncustodial parent profile
Boston University requires the CSS profile & the Noncustodial parent profile
Northeastern requires the CSS profile & the Noncustodial parent profile
Providence requires the CSS profile

As far as federal aid is concerned, you are only eligible for a 5500 stafford loan. This means that as a freshman you can borrow up to $5500. $3500 will be subsidized meaning that the federal government will pay the interest on the loan while you are attending school. The interest on the remaining $2000 will start accruing as soon as you ue the money (or the school applies it to your bill).

Thank you so much!
