FAFSA Opened in October - Does this mean schools can get aid award info out earlier this year?

Not asking for myself - but I wanted to know if Pitt will keep to the old timeline for financial aid even though FAFSA opened up earlier this year? I thought the whole idea of opening FAFSA up to prior year tax data was to make the financial aid process faster for students who need to make decisions.

So will Pitt still wait until February to send out financial aid packages?

Maybe I have the timeline wrong?

Hello,

Pitt financial aid packages will start to go out in February of 2017 for admitted freshmen who have already filed their FAFSA. This turn around time should give you plenty of time to review your options, resolve any questions that come up, and make an informed decision by May 1.

You can get some more information on this year’s process on our 2017-2018 FAFSA FAQ page: https://oafa.pitt.edu/2017-2018-fafsa-faq/

Side note: We recommend that students file their FAFSA by March 1 at the latest, to make sure they are maximizing their aid options.

Best,
A Pitt Admissions Staffer

Two years ago the FA priority deadline was March 1 as well. We filed FAFSA in February after we did our taxes and got our award notification in April.

So February would be two months earlier. If you need FA you should do the FAFSA asap.
