<p>Some people hire others to fill out the forms. They would be the preparer. </p>

<p>I had to go in a correct my FAFSA this morning and I noticed that in the section where it says preparer, if you had someone doing it for you then they would have to provide their social and how much they charged.</p>
<p>why would you have someone taking over one of your responsibilities?</p>
<p>Preparer is a third party. You do NOT need anyone to prepare your FAFSA. One hour of your time is all it takes. You deserve your best effort.</p>
<p>I have never been paid to help with a FAFSA, but I have stepped in to help fix mistakes that people have screwed up on their FAFSA forms. It isn’t complicated if you read the directions and have a good sense of what the instructions are asking for. </p>
<p>Last year, one of my son’s friends called and said he didn’t get financial aid, even though Dad was a single parent and made $70K a year. Turns out he put his home’s selling price as an asset on his fafsa. Lots of kids make mistakes. Lots of parents make mistakes.</p>
<p>Most people who pay someone to do the fafsa also pay someone to do their income taxes, even though I find the fafsa to be so much less complicated to fill out.</p>
