i have not files fafsa, if i file it now, will i recieve a pell grant for the fall, asuming that i do. also, if you were to take a loan, where would your best option be?

The answer to the first question is “Yes, if you qualify”. Late application does not affect Pell status, but it probably will affect your eligibility for most other kinds of grant aid (state, institutional).

As for loans, I recommend the Stafford and Perkins loans, but again you need to complete the FAFSA to apply.

thx bark, can you give me some info on loans. whats the diff between loans that the school offers and the promos i get by the mail offering me money. is there intrest on these loans? any requirements? if i tranfered how what would happen? do i pay after i graduate? anything else, or any other information i can look at. Maryland College Park is a bit pricy, any advice would be appreiacted. thank you :)

Wow Abe! Lots of questions… :)

The first bit of advice I have is to make an appointment to meet with your financial aid counselor at Maryland CP. The FA Officer is always the best place to begin, since I don’t know too much about how your school operates… and they are your local experts.

Generally, though, loans you can take out in your name from your financial aid office (Stafford, Perkins) are the best deals (lowest interest rate, good repayment terms, borrow on your own, etc). Then, generally, the more “vanilla” of the parent loans are the next best deal (PLUS, TERI, Nellie Mae, etc). Last are the loans which have you as a borrower, but with a required co-signer. These loans tend to have the highest interest rate with the highest fees.

Again, though, I would check with the FA Office. If you want to post a particular loan program I can see if I have heard of it.
