FAFSA Too Short? Didn't Ask about Work Study

Completed the FAFSA soon after release, and it seemed much shorter than I’d anticipated. Almost too short. Seems like everything went through though. I guess the IRS supplying information took a lot of the number crunching out of the equation? Seems I didn’t have to enter much if any financials.

Secondly, I was expecting the FAFSA to ask if my student was interested in Work Study. It never did (for me or my student). Was that question removed?

Last - if there was an issue with FAFSA form - do they reach out to you for clarification?

I don’t believe the work study question is asked anymore (I didn’t see it as I was working through the form).

Yes, the form is much simpler for most people. Some questions aren’t asked because they come directly from the IRS transfer. Some questions are no longer asked as part of FAFSA Simplification.

Once the FAFSA is processed, the student will receive a detailed FAFSA Submission Summary. Be sure to read through that with your student when it arrives in their email at the end of the month.

The school will let you know if work study is an option, and then you can accept or decline it, when you accept your offer and aid.

I also thought it seemed too short. I could swear it didn’t ask me for my financials at all. Just my permission for FAFSA to access my tax returns through the IRS. Did I miss something?

Also, I applied online 7 business days ago. Seems like we got our results within 3 days in the past. Anyone else not heard back after 7 days?

Several schools we applied to asked if we would be interested in work study on their application

You were a winner, winner in the FAFSA simplification lottery. Actually, most people will find it easier now.

Processing is being held up until at least the end of January (probably longer). The student should have received a email with information after submitting. Check email. Also, they should be able to log into their FSA account and see something about it by now, though. They should be able to see an estimated SAI. Check that.

Thanks. As it turns out the email my S22 received said his application was incomplete because his parent didn’t sign. But now I can’t sign until his current application which was submitted is “reviewed.” I could have sworn I clicked the button to sign but it was so glitchy when I filled out the form I guess it didn’t register my click. It’s stressful waiting for the application to be “reviewed” since I’m worried now it’s just floating in limbo. But I guess I’ll give it another couple of weeks before calling in.

It’s an issue that has happened to a lot of people. Everyone says that they did sign it, so who knows what is happening. All you can do is wait … and then sign (again) when the system allows you to do so.
