FAFSA verification different from IDOC?

I am waiting for the IRS to process my taxes so that I can update FAFSA using the retrieval tool. If my son’s school also requires IDOC documents, is there any point in waiting for the IRS? If I am submitting copies of our tax return to the college, does it matter if we are selected for verification?

IDOC is very different from the FAFSA retieval tool. Go to the College Board site right away and click on IDOC. It has you mail in a bunch of forms related to your tax return, such as signed copies of returns, W-2’s, 1099’s etc., to the College Board Office.
You can find out if your return has been accepted by going to “Where’s My Refund?” on the IRS website. But it takes a good two weeks before you can use the data retrieval tool. I sent our IDOC stuff in before the retrieval tool worked for me on Fafsa. Ours were due March 1st so you need to hurry.
Best of luck to you.
