Failed White House Investigation

I was accepted to work as an intern for the Fall 2017 White House Internship Program.

Today, I received notification that I had failed the background investigation and was found unsuitable for employment. No reasons were given. I was completely candid on the SF-86. I cannot think of any reason, besides my extensive foreign travel, as to why I was rejected.

I wanted to ask if anyone had any similar situations / advice?

Thank you

Where have you travelled?

It may well be places you’ve travelled to if you say you’ve travelled extensively. Where have you been?

Likely the drugs and alcohol section. There’s a bizarre randomness to how this section is treated. It really comes down to the person reading your application and the mood they’re in that day if you answered yes to anything.

Did you travel in the Middle East, Indonesia, Somalia, North Korea?

Drugs aren’t always the reason for rejections. One of my colleagues sons was rejected for a reckless driving misdemeanor.

The OP hasn’t returned since August 21, and this is their only post. This looks like a hit and run poster to me.

When my D was getting clearance for something similar, they had a lot of questions about friendships with foreigners. Close friendships or relatives who are not US citizens can cause issues. And maybe different rules are being applied in this current administration than in the past, too.
