Chat I’m failing AP calc AB and idk how to get my grade up. Honestly I’m concerned as to why I’m doing so bad in the first place. In the previous years, I’ve always done good in math and I’ve always turned in my work on time. I think this year I’ve just gotten hit with senioritis (even though I’m a junior). In my IB physics class I’ve been doing pretty bad too since I have a D. It’s just difficult for me to want to complete my work since it’s so hard to do. I think I’m just not used to being challenged and now that I am I’m getting lazy. I just don’t know how to get motivated enough to want to complete my work so that I don’t fail the class and eventually also the AP exam. Help is much appreciated.

I think it is a form of address, used for people online, like “fam” or (for us old people) “guys.”
To demonstrate that you understand the shorthand of today’s youth, just respond, “You are cooked.”
Oh, so close! The proper response is actually “ngl you’re cooked” (also acceptable: ngl your cooked)
Your performance in the class and your ability to pass the AP test are very different things. At some schools the class is more rigorous than the test but that is generally not the case. Be open with your teacher He or she may suggest not taking exam so you don’t have a poor score. Some colleges require all scores to be submitted.
Depending on your school, there may be a way to move to a lower level math class, complete some of the missed work, or otherwise improve your grade. Be humble, take responsibility, and don’t try and shift the blame. Talk to the teacher and counselor. Occasionally failing vs. a D actually triggers more options like the ability to retake a class like Business Calculus and replace the grade vs. a D as an earned grade.
Some of what you are describing - precipitously falling grades, difficulty engaging with subjects, lack of energy and motivation and anxiety - may in some cases reflect clinical depression. There is a stigma around mental issues, but depression is extremely common, very treatable and generally limited in terms of time.
Please consider this possibility during this stressful time.
These are very tough classes. Get lots of peer tutoring, teacher help, maybe pro tutoring. Do your absolute best. Take stats and an easier science next year. Go to teachers today!
I felt like I didn’t understand anything in calc AB and I was a senior lol. For the test prep, scour Google for cram sheets, do Khan Academy, just tackle one theorem at a time. As for your grade… my calc class didn’t have any assignments after the test so ngl you might be cooked But it’s not the end of your college hopes. Since you’re a junior, worst case scenario you retake the class… or reconsider your intended major… it doesn’t completely eliminate your dream school, I didn’t even have my test score or calc grade when I applied and I still got a few acceptances to somewhat reputable universities lol. You’ve gotten some good advice on this forum, but we don’t know all your circumstances. So definitely talk to your teacher or guidance counselor and see what you can do going forward. Good luck
How did you do in the prerequisites for calculus, such as algebra, trigonometry, and pre-calculus?
Year long class or one semester block schedule?
What were your grades up to this point? Figure out where you went sideways? A little time on Khan academy may help pinpoint what you don’t know. Then go get help with that part.
Are you really failing the entire class or just this quarter?
Do you have access to AP classroom? You should have it if you are signed up for AP exam. I’m also taking AP calc and the teachers in those videos explain things much better than my actual teacher. Plus they cover all the things that the teacher doesn’t but you still need for the exam. Also a lot of school have super easy assignments after the AP exam that are basically free points. If your school does, you might be able to bring your grade back up that way.
It could be that you’ve advanced too quickly, that you’re not quite ready for these classes at the AP level and need to go down to regular.
It may be something else - medical, psychological, etc and maybe you need to be checked out.
Have you been seeking extra help? Your teachers may know right away if you’re not ready and perhaps ask your parents to get you checked out medically to ensure nothing is wrong.
Good luck.
I don’t think it’s possible to opt out of the exam as I’ve already paid the fee a few months ago.
I did have a tutor at the beginning of the year which definitely helped for a little bit, but as the class started advancing the tutor started helping less and it was beginning to feel like a waste of money. Although, I have been going through quite a few mental health issues such as depression which may be the reason why? But I take medication for it so it wouldn’t make sense for it to be the leading cause.
I’ve got AP classroom. But which videos are you talking about?
It’s a year long class. I passed last semester with a B, mainly because I did well on the tests. I think it’s also because I got a job right before the second semester back in December so it could be because I’m more tired nowadays due to working?
If your school has an AP coordinator, they will be able to withdraw you from the exam and refund the fee. Occasionally, my own kids changed their minds about testing and we never had any issues with the withdrawal process.
I did have minor depression a few months ago after I lost a friend, but I only have low motivation for school these days. When it comes to events outside of school I’m perfectly normal.
The videos for whatever topic you are struggling with. They have like 3 videos for every lesson.
