Hi guys, I am currently doing IB diploma in Indonesia. My IB final exams just started. However, I did a serious mistake during the ib exam. I accidentally didn’t submit my phone to the teacher. I found out in the middle of the test, and I was afraid of telling my teacher about my phone. Then in last 15 minutes my phone just rang, and turned on by itself. My teacher caught me having phone and reported to IB. I really didn’t cheat, but my teacher doesn’t believe what I said.
I’ve been already accepted to university with unconditional offer. But I’m afraid I won’t award Diploma. Will it jeopardize my admission? Thank you for reading.

For a US student, no, it is a non-issue whether a Diploma candidate does, or does not receive the Diploma in July. If your family was relying on advanced standing from the Diploma to save money etc., then that will have an impact. But I’ve never heard of acceptance of a student in the US whose admission was contingent on receipt of the Diploma. Some international students may have different expectations or requirements. If so, perhaps ask for a meeting with your teacher, perhaps ask if your parents can be involved, and go from there.
Get to your guidance counselor or advisor in the school immediately to discuss the issue. Phones don’t turn on by themselves, and I’m not sure how you accidently found your phone in the middle of the test. Make sure that you accept responsibility, because it was your job to ensure that you turned the phone in. Ask the counselor/advisor what will happen, and how it will be reported. based on their answer, you may need to notify the college. But maybe not.
