Failure in Highschool-A+ student in state college-where to transfer to?

<p>I finished highschool with a 1.9 GPA and ~ 1850 SAT scores…now im enrolled in a state college with a 4.0 with a decent course load. </p>

<p>ECs : Rowing, Tennis, teaching tennis, and other clubs…</p>

<p>I write great essays.</p>

<p>Do i have any chance at transfering to top colleges? I was thinking about Middlebury, Duke, Penn, Connecticut college, colgate…</p>

<p>Also, some colleges like brown state that they look at “personal growth” and i think i have demonstrated immense amounts of it…9th grade .5 gpa, 10th 1.0, 11th 2.5, 12th ~3.5 college 4.0</p>

<p>On a side, I currently attend UPenn. I transferred there last year from a very good state school. It really has a very different atmosphere than the other schools you listed…it’s very urban. It seems like you would prefer a smaller school in a more rural setting. Also, Penn puts a pretty heavy emphasis on your high school record. All my transfer friends had pretty much perfect gpa’s in high school. However, if you apply as a junior to these schools with a near-4.0 from your current school, I think you will have a very good chance. Good luck!</p>

<p>very well known HS…7 class load /full year required and 4 years of latin required…limited 2 APs per year</p>

<p>are there any top schools that dont require or judge HS record much ? id like to transfer in as a sophomore but if that cant happen then id have to settle for junior transfer</p>

<p>Wouldn’t by the time you’re a junior transfer, it’s already hard for you to make new friends or get girls?</p>

<p>By the time you’re a junior, you only have 2 years to experience the great stuff on the campus. What’s the point…</p>

<p>The SAT score remains an issue. Many schools will allow you to retake. One year of a 4.0–and you don’t even have a whole year yet–is not going to wipe out your HS record. The general rule of thumb is that you won’t get into a school as a soph transfer that you couldn’t have gotten into as a freshmen.</p>

<p>So your best shot is as a junior transfer with higher scores. Try the ACT if the SAT isn’t your thing.</p>

<p>^ Uhm, my college advisor says that SAT or HS GPA no longer remains too important when you’re a Junior.</p>

<p>Some school will not require you to submit your HS data, if you have 30/60 credits completed. You really need to do your homework, and find out what those schools are.</p>

<p>For example, University of California campuses do not require you to submit SAT or your HS transcript. But they do require 60 semester credits and specific course patterns.</p>

<p>1.9 HS GPA will probably keep you out of top schools that consider HS performance regardless of how many credits you completed.</p>

<p>It discusses about how students went through certain paths and were able to get into Ivy League schools. If you have a 2.0 HS GPA, could you still apply to Harvard as Junior? Yes, as long as you do really great in College.</p>

<p>PartyPajama, my concern is that even if someone like us were to be a junior transfer, people will already have established their social group of friends by the time we’re in the last two years of College. Think about it… you missed out the things on campus, which completely sucks. Time flies quickly in College.</p>

<p>Hmm well i made most my friends senior year from rowing and other sports…spending 4+ hrs a day with people then chilling after=easy to make friends…from my expierence anyways</p>

<p>i go to a school in boston ranked 19th in the nation (public schools) and it sends 40-50 kids a year to harvard lol…would that help me? (boston latin school)</p>

<p>I’m not sure, that 1.9 GPA doesn’t look too rigor despite of the course rigors you’ve managed to handle.</p>

<p>I think you should look into elite schools that have good transfer rate. Try not to aim for the ones you won’t get into.</p>

<p>While a large course load might look good, don’t take so many classes that you can’t get good grades. If you finished your sophomore year with a near 4.0, I think you would be golden for most of the schools you’re looking at.</p>

<p>ok so basically take the hardest classes that i can menage an “A” in…should i round out my classes? I am taking high level english/history/humanities classes right now and have not really taken much math…(struggled with math all 4 years of HS)</p>
