Fake competitive? Juniper Young Writers Summer Residential

Just got accepted. Wondering if it’s really worth competitive? I heard they had 24 students for session one now turned 50 for every both session 1 and 2. They say ‘admissions are competitive’, but I’m doubtful since they don’t release numbers and 50 is a whole lot. Maybe they care I’m paying 2x fees for being non-commuter.

Why do you care if it’s competitive or not? If you are interested in the program and can afford it- great. If there’s something else you’d rather be doing this summer- then go do that. Not everything in life needs to be a competition to be valuable.

Well as much as I don’t like to say it I’m mostly in it for the tiny resume boost if anything at all

Competitive matters because it equals prestige in a lot of ways. Or at least that’s just me trying to get validated as a writer.

i’ve done the juniper young writers program (although a a few years ago so i’m sure it’s very different now) however i’ve also done two other programs in recent years

juniper is good, and it’s a great achievement to have been accepted !
have you been accepted into any other programs???

hii yeah its great to hear from someone that actually went

I’m currently only a rising 10th grader so I only applied to a handful of summer programs (IYWS, kenyon, etc are only available to me next yr) and I assume those two other programs you did are of similar caliber?

im hoping that if i do end up going (its halfway across the country for me) I’ll be able to network a lot or talk about it on other apps!

hi! i got accepted to juniper and idk anything about it😭 or even if i should go (weighing up another summer program too)

are you going to juniper??

Most summer programs give no boost for college admissions…but they can show your interest in an area.

I think you need to rethink why you want to do this. Is it for the experience, or is it for some perceived prestige? Frankly, if it’s ONLY for the prestige factor, I would suggest you do something like…get a job…which adcoms look favorably on.

It sounds like you might enjoy this experience. If so…go for it
