fake uggs on ebay...

Dang, I have been shopping on ebay for years and this is the first time something bad has happened. My new uggs, which I just opened this morning, are fake. The labels look real, and the soles look real (although the R for registered trademark is not quite right). What you can really tell is off is the lining, though. No soft lambs wool. They smell like plastic. Stiff fake fur of some sort, not at all like the soft plush lining of my daughter’s uggs. DH had the clever idea of melting it as a test, and it does indeed melt in a flame. Plastic. Dang.

The seller had a lot of positive ratings but when I try to look more carefully at the ratings on this seller for boots sold, they all say “private” so I think the references may be fake too. I emailed the seller. We’ll see what happened. There’s a procedure to go through via Paypal, the “Significantly Not As Described” or SNAD procedure, which would be the next step…

MidwestMom - We had a similar experience with a North Face jacket from ebay a few years ago. I knew right away it was a fake because of the zipper and I compared it with our other NF jackets which we bought from retail stores. I called NF and they have an authentication department. I sent out the jacket and they sent it back with an official letter that it was not an authentic NF. No charge for the process; I just paid for the shipping going to NF. I had already contacted the seller, and of course, s/he never responded. I ended up using the drawn-out ebay process of getting my money back and succeeded. Ebay had to have the letter from NF, though, to prove the product was fake. They did not want the jacket. Good luck.

Thanks! It does help to have a “real” version in the house for comparison purposes. Looks like UGG won’t help me though. They say

I’m betting the seller will refund your money, in hopes of keeping a positive rating. After all, most people wouldn’t know the difference. I don’t like the fact that feedback can be private now.

I recently received a fake IPOD Nano from an ebay seller. It was a horrible fake. I was furious. He was very nice and refunded my money. He was kicked off of ebay.

I bet your seller will refund. You need to read the listings VERY carefully to make sure they say “authentic” or “guaranteed”. If they use the actual logo of the brand, they are pretty screwed.

Good luck.

Notify E-Bay. They need to know that a seller is ripping people off. Go thru the SNAD procedure as well.

Don’t worry - if you used PayPal they will take care of it for you. Just file a claim with them and they will refund you. I did it and it was painless. Good luck!
