Fall 2014 Transfer Thread

If I were to make an A- in one of my business indicator courses (Calc 2) do you guys think that would hurt my chancesof getting into McCombs? I made As in the other 3 indicator courses and all my other classes but calc 2 is just so hard :(

@JeffWinger‌ I don’t think it will hurt your chances at all! If your university works on the +/- grading system, it might take your GPA down a tad (If an A- is a 3.7), but I don’t see that as hurting your chances at all! An A- in calc 2 is impressive.

@JeffWinger‌

I got a B in Calc I and A’s in the other three indicator courses and I was accepted to McCombs. I don’t think it will hurt you.

thanks guys! I’ll try my best and hopefully make an A- atleast. and good luck to everyone on exams! Study hard for that acceptance :-)

I have an honest question, I got rejected from my CS major and accepted into UGS, will it really be possible for me to transfer into the CS major within the year I would attend? For example maybe the spring 2015 semester, or at least the fall 2015?
I really want to attend UT but if I cannot get into this major I don’t know if it will be worth it because I don’t know what else I would do there.
I feel I was rejected due to my lack of CS classes because I just started my freshman year and I will be a sophomore in the fall.

Do you know if having 80 transferable credits will affect external transfer admissions decisions into CNS?
Do you know people who externally transferred into CNS with 75-85 credits?

@danichus it is very possible, just try your hardest to keep your GPA up.

@rice00princess they only accept 60 credits I think :p

What are the most competitive CNS degrees?

Major question:
If I have a GPA of 3.5, but five of those hours are nontransferrable (they were Honors classes at texas state) will UT not even calculate those classes? That would leave me with a 3.4 which is too low. I am hoping that UT will at least realize that those 5 hours were hard classes and I got an A…

If they don’t transfer they won’t look at them.

@Saborak they won’t even see them?

@ras184, i mean they might but they won’t play into your acceptance… also, a 3.4 isn’t too low. it’s still possible that you could be accepted!

@Saborak thanks I mean I do have 2 good recs, good essays, and a really good resume. I applied for COLA Int. Studies and Sociology. I’m in the Honors college at Texas state which i thought would be a plus but now it looks like it’s not even going to matter :/

For your sake, the safest bet is to make your second choice COLA undecided. That’s how people with low GPA get in.

It looks like for you guys still in review, they are waiting yall out to compare your competitiveness to the >30 hours pool. They took high GPAs and rejected low ones already. The rest of yall are just being compared to the new guys with >30 hours. Their transcript deadline is may 12th I believe, and more decisions roll at the end of May.

Our transcript deadline is June 3.

@foafoa thanks, i went ahead and changed my second choice to undeclared since that does seem to be the trend.

I was considering changing my major’s from Econ/Gov to Gov/Undeclared.

Hey guys, I have a question. I am applying to CNS Biology next semester with a GPA of 3.55 and 74 credit hours. I have A’s in all my classes even Bio,Calc and Physics, but two C’s in US history I and Art History, a B in US History II, and a whopping F in Arabic I (I took Spanish I and II in the two subsequent semesters and got A’s). Without the F my GPA would be a 3.77, but I will have to apply with the 3.55. What do you think my chances are to getting into my preferred major of Biology?

BTW can I even transfer with 74 credit hours?

It’s hard to get in with an F. I believe that’s unspoken but they will likely reject anybody who have several Cs or a single F.
