Fall 2014 Transfer Thread

@Kyotoraz‌ an on-campus advisor in the department you are applying for can help you find your science classes that would count towards your degree. Every college has a specific major document that lays out every single possible class that would count for credit towards your major’s degree plan. I would email an advisor and let them know that either you are a prospective student or new student who is curious about possible science courses that can be taken! They should be ok with sending a copy to you by email regardless! xx

@DeeGeeErbear‌ Alright Thanks!

@deegeeerbear When is the best time to submit the application? Also are medical students that attended UT an acceptable source for recommendation letters?

@Kyotoraz‌ I don’t think there is a “best” time to submit your application. I waited till like a few days before the deadline to send in everything altogether. The exception being letters of recommendations. I waited longer because I wanted to take my time making sure I had everything and my essays were the absolute best they could be. And any adult can write you a letter of rec, so a former UT grad is an awesome choice for someone to compose you a letter. (2/3 of my letters came from former UT grads.)

I was accepted into the college of natural sciences with my second choice major, biology. I applied to the college of education as an exercise science major because I did not fulfil the math requirement. I’m coming from Hardin-Simmons University, GPA is a 3.97, Gamma Beta Phi, 2 Rec letters: college algebra and freshman writing.

@DeeGeeErbear‌ I have an uncle that got his PHD at UT but had nothing to do with their undergrad. Would his letter have significance?

Yes! Any adult would have significance. I would avoid family members, however. If your grandfather has a different last name then I think it would be fine. It really is better off coming from a professional or an educator though!

**uncle I’m sorry.

@DeeGeeErbear‌ okay sound great thanks for the help!!!

@deegeeErbear Im not taking introductory bio my freshman year but im still majoring in biology. Since this is the case should i still apply as a bio major in CNS or would you recommend something else? Also what would be a good second choice?

Hi, Jennat, I am in a really similar position so I was just wondering if you got in and if your high amount of hours ended up being an issue? I know you posted this a really long time ago but I would greatly appreciate a response, thank you so much!

will a 3.667 at UTSA as a cap student get me into Computer E at UT? I’m also in a bunch of clubs here and will have 2-3 rec letters ,my backup is internally transferring but that seems a lot harder

How hard is it to internal transfer into McCombs

Hi DeeGee, I am very interested in your opinion of my admissions prospects at UT, A&M–College Station, SMU, BC and BU. Please advise me how to communicate with you via private message. Thanks!!

I am an international student studying in a university in Dubai and have a current GPA of 3.79 and expect a GPA of 3.88 by the of the semester. I am trying to get into Cockrell as a chemical engineering student. My score in TOEFL was 105/120. I plan to take it again.

I was a member of lot of quiz clubs in my school and was a member of the student council. At college, right now, I am a member of Literary Club, Tech Club, Quiz Club, Charity Organization and have done a lot of community service. I would be very thankful to know my chances of getting in. Thank you.

I am beginning to seriously consider a transfer to UT.
I am a TX resident, but I am currently attending college, out of state, in Iowa. I did a did a decent number of college credits while I was still in high school.
I started this semester as a freshman, majoring in Nutritional Science.
At the close of this semester, I have hit sophomore status and I am majoring in Human Dev. and Family Studies.
I switched majors pretty early in the semester and I was able to switch to required classes for my new major. I really like what I’m studying, but I don’t love the way the curriculum is set up for it here.
Basically, to get into grad school for what I want to do, I’m doing a double program specialization and supplementing like crazy with additional science courses, and I feel that the geographical area is somewhat lacking in volunteer opportunities for my field.
UT’s Human Development and Family Sciences program in the College of Natural Sciences seems far better suited to the career path I’d like to head down.

However, since, we have a 3 sequence course layout with calculus, compared to UT’s 2, It’s not going to be quick for me to fill that requirement for the College of Natural Science. Additionally, in the case that I don’t get in to UT, I would be pushing myself really far behind in my coursework to graduate in my current program, since I already exceeded the math requirement for it with a 4 credit College Algebra course I took while I was still in high school. I would love to take more math and planned on taking one or two more math courses, just to hit what I need for grad school, but I can’t justify pre-cal + 2 more cal courses, if I end up staying in my current program.

Currently I have a 4.0 GPA. I have pretty high hopes to keep it there and I see no possibility of it dropping below a 3.8.
I am VP of the human dev. and family studies club, as of Spring 2015.
In high school, I was Student Council President, did a lot of volunteer work, and I had 29 on the ACT.
Though I’m pretty sure that, as a transfer student, my ACT score and other stuff from high school doesn’t matter nearly as much as it did for freshman apps.
Anyway, any thoughts on my shot at getting in would be awesome.

Baylor University
3.14
McCombs
Currently Health Science major at Baylor but want to switch to undecided business
Tons of extracurriculars in high school and held officer positions, at Baylor in Medical Service Organization
Don’t have recommendation letters- do I need them? How do you submit them?
Was top 6% in high school and am a freshman at Baylor so does that affect my chances?

@longhorn99 a 3.14 is pretty low to transfer to UT, mccombs you generally need between a 3.8-4.0.

@tiffylu Hi, I attend UTD as well and want to transfer to UT. I had a question, how did you send in your transcripts? Because UTD asks for an email address on the transcript request form and UT said they don’t have one? Please help!
