Fall 2014 Transfer Thread

Congrats first of all @akaesther‌
Try dobie its literally on campus lol. Not sure about prices though

@akaesther‌ jester and San Jacinto seem nice and tons of students live there!

@135pipe Thank you!
Nah, Dobie is too expensive. I contacted a realtor, I’ll see how it goes.

@DeeGeeErbear I’m actually looking for apartments with my friend. Dorms are too expensive.

@akaesther Are you male or female? Cause all the co-ops have run out of space for male. If you are a girl then 21st street still have double and single room available, Pearl have a few double female spot left.
This is th college house availability list: <a href=“Waitlist- 2014/2015 - Google Sheets”>Waitlist- 2014/2015 - Google Sheets;

Hoping someone has been through this and can help me out. Well I’ve always wanted to go to UT and skipped on the CAP program (personal reasons). Now I’m kicking myself for it. I’ll be attending Texas Tech this fall and planning to transfer into the CNS. I know my gpa has to be up there but how high. Im going to try and volunteer not only for the transfer but for medical school. So what are the requirements to transfer into the CNS? Say my gpa is a bit low 3.2-3.5 could I transfer into liberal arts and still take the science courses needed? Any advice helps

@akaesther‌ try the Riverside and Far West areas, not too expensive and have shuttle routes

@Kyotoraz I was in the same boat as you. You have to take 30 hours at your current college to apply. You can submit the application before you finish the 30 hrs but you will have to send in a second transcript and you will have a delayed decision. I think I received my acceptance in early June. There is also a calculus requirement for CNS as outlined on this page- http://bealonghorn.utexas.edu/transfer/before/requirements</a>
Make sure your credits transfer using this system- <a href=“Automated Transfer Equivalency System | Undergraduate Admissions | The University of Texas at Austin”>Automated Transfer Equivalency System | Undergraduate Admissions | The University of Texas at Austin;
I had a 3.5 with a C+ and a B in calculus. I don’t know if it’s just easier to get into Chemistry or what but if your essays are spectacular, you should have a very good chance.

Alright thanks! On the website it also says that 2 sciences are recommended. This upcoming year I will be in one science, chemistry (with lab). So will that effect me a whole lot?

@akaesther

@kyotoraz I’m not sure about that. I had a 4 on my chemistry AP so I managed to get out of the first semester of gen chem. I took the second semester of gen chem and the first semester of physics. Any AP credits would be helpful. Have you contacted the transfer office? They can help you more in depth.

@akaesther So i emailed them and they just said that it was recommended but not required. Not sure how much that effects me…

@DeeGeeErbear‌ Is it possible to transfer to UT for the spring semester if I am a rising freshman in college? Or would I have to wait until my sophomore year to consider transferring?

@7charlie UT requires you to have 30 hours under your belt before you can apply for a transfer. Also make sure that the 30 hours you have completed will transfer since UT does not transfer every course.

@Kyotoraz I’m at my transfer orientation right now! The campus is massive. It would be better to take another science. See if there are any easier courses at TT. It should increase your chances if you do well in those courses but could also harm you if you do poorly.

@7charlie Refer to my post to Kyotoraz in the middle of page 121

@akaesther‌ Forgive me if this is a bad question but the confusion is getting to me. What other sciences are there besides the main four? Do sociology and psychology technically fall under sciences?

No
Iberal arts

Okay I was sort of skeptical about those. What other sciences are there that a first year student can take besides the core?

Anatomy
Astronomy
