ALL HAIL THE TAP PROGRAM!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHA YES!!!

shoutout to community college for being one of the best and most transformative experiences in my life. to think how alone and directionless I was a few years ago… I can’t wait to see what life holds in store for me at UCLA or wherever else I end up attending. just so emotional right now.

WHAT WHAT WHAT

I was expecting a rejection or at best a waitlist. This totally caught me by surprise.

Major: Literature/Writing
GPA: 3.45 upon application (didn’t bother calculating based on what they don’t take, etc)
Prereqs: Some, not all
Tap: No, though my IGETC would be considered done if they considered my university courses (transferred from Pepperdine University, rank #58 in US) still doing math in spring tho
Extracurriculars: pretty stellar, had tons of writing experience, lots of writing internships and employment
Essays: I thought they were weak and wishy-washy but I’ve always been pretty good at writing and talking my way into things…so who knows
Other: talked about hardships, including depression because my old school was homophobic and financial problems where I had to step up to help my family
Housing Message: I never checked, didn’t want the stress of it
Rejected: UCLA, UCSB (<-second one was a huge bummer for me, made me worried for everything else)
Accepted: only UCSD

I cannot even believe my luck and I really want to congratulate everyone who got in and send my most compassionate wishes for those who were not… I didn’t think I deserved to go to a school like SD and now i’m all like ;______;

Congrats fullload.

@luckie1367, wait. You actually threw up? I know the feeling, my stomach was in knots. Even though we went through it all last year, it’s exactly the same all over again.

Many of you know my daughter did not go to UCLA last year and I wasn’t 100% honest with the reason, mainly because it was very traumatizing. She told me I could tell you all, so it won’t happen to you.

She sent her transcript in and it was received June 15. The actual email from CSM said UCLA received it on June 15. She went along, got her classes, her roommates, we sent her dorm stuff by fedEx. About two weeks before the start of fall term (mid-Sept) all her classes disappeared from her portal and her housing money was refunded.

She had gotten kicked out because they never received her transcript. Needless to say we were devastated. We never saw this coming. I will say everyone was super nice. She found an email from late Aug in spam noting they hadn’t received it.

She was told by admissions that transcripts are sent in bunches and even though there is documentation, some don’t make it.

No one caught the glitch when she went to student orientation in late July to enroll in classes because it ends up UCLA was working off an unofficial transcript she’d sent to Riverside in January.

Anyhow, it was too late to appeal as she had been kicked out of housing and classes and the week of pre-term activities was starting the next week. But the appeal people were so nice and supportive.

My feeling is sometimes things are for the best. She had a great year with some great accomplishments. So, look at any setback as a positive.

AND MAKE SURE THEY HAVE YOUR TRANSCRIPT! ;

Easily one of the best days of my life.
