Essays: idk I thought they sucked but my boyfriend loved them, but then again I’m super critical about my writing.
ECs: internship at San Francisco Public Utlilities Commission, peer mentor for sexual assault awareness group, did several hundred hours of volunteering at local children’s library in high school, and spoke at the Undergraduate Conference of the European Union at Scripps College (though I’m not sure if they took this last one into account because I sent them an email about it in March).
Special stuff: I expressed an interest in European/Nordic studies which I’m super passionate about. I’m also waiting for UC Berkeley in terms of UCs. I applied to Columbia, University of Washington Seattle, Boston University, and Georgetown SFS, and UCLA is the first school I heard back from (:

This will get buried, but hopefully this will appear in a search for future engineering transfer students seeking to go to UCLA.
My bf was accepted for mechanical engineering with a 4.0. He was worried he wouldn’t get in because UCLA says to take the 3-course physics series at one community college (he switched CC’s half way through so he has 2 at one school and 1 at the other), AND he was missing three strongly recommended engineering courses. However he completed every pre-requisite with an A. He had 0 familial support (no parents) and 0 financial support beyond government aid. He was a math and science tutor and in the chemistry club in school. He volunteered to rebuild homes after a natural disaster and provided humanitarian aid with an organization for three years.
