@ucdavis489 You should hear back this week or next
@Cayton or anyone else. Do you think switching into the linguistics with computer science from anthropology would be difficult? I applied as that major last year and was rejected, but I still would really love to switch into that major if possible. It seems to be the exact opposite of impacted as I see about only 20 people applied for it during Fall 2014. Would that result in a similar problem as it being impacted? Thanks for any help.
edited: nevermind, misunderstood the question.
I was accepted to UCSD for computer science last year and I only had 59 UC-only units listed on my application. I didn’t attend primarily because it was too far for me, but also because I was afraid of getting rescinded when they actually had my final transcripts in hand.
From what I’ve read, if it is a major prep course, they’ll either rescind it or ask you to take it over the summer before Fall @veriLey
Does anyone have a sense of how much the summer financial aid actually is, for a maximally poor student? I’m looking at cross enrollment with berkeley over the summer. UCLA’s brochure gives a very wide range and it seems you get reduced aid for taking 11 or less units. Isn’t taking 12 upper division units during the summer inhumanely difficult? Am I misunderstanding something because I’m coming from a CC where summer classes are six weeks and the units are semester units?
Good question, Uni. I registered for summer session A and session C, two classes each, totaling 20 units. No idea what the aid will be but I did apply and hoping for the best.
If anyone has taken summer and understands how the aid works, let us know.
I just have one last question. I was reading the UCLA’s page for College Letters and Sciences AP credit transfer. Under some of my AP’s it stated that it “could not fulfill general breadth requirements”. Does this mean my AP credit will transfer over, but just not fulfill general breadth requirements, or does it mean that the AP credits entirely do not count towards my major in the College Letters and Sciences?
Deciding on commuting (about 20 mins without traffic) or living on-campus/apartments. Anyone have Pros or Cons of either?
@veriLey they will transfer over.
Is anyone else having a problem accessing the UCLA-gmail function on the myucla site? Is it because I haven’t SIRed yet? I noticed someone earlier having a problem with their school email and I’m wondering if we should put our regular email address or our UCLA email address as our preferred address when we SIR
@UniversalSnip At Cal, you get financial aid if you take 6 or more semester units over the summer. That’s all I know.
@princessluna you do know there’s always LA traffic right? Lol
`
@LuckyName Con #1 lol
Do you have to SIR to send official transcripts to the school? I haven’t submitted my SIR yet because i’m holding off until Bruin Day. I know i’m going here for a fact though. So that’s why I figured i’d just start my transcripts process now. But I don’t know if i’m required to submit my SIR first.
@princessluna if you can dorm and not go into debt, or at least not too much debt, dorm.
anyone know the living conditions of dorming and etc? do we get our own room at least or is it bunk-beds and etc…
@princessluna as a fellow commuter, I have to tell you it really isn’t all that bad. I live in the valley, so i am about 22 miles from the school. With no traffic, I get to school very quick, with traffic, at the most 1 hour.
My first quarter, my schedule was as.
Monday-Wednesday, 11am was my first class, 2nd class was 3:30 and it ended 4:45. So, I hit traffic going(Not as bad) and coming. It was a bit of pain, but you can always stay on campus for a few hours to read, or catch up some HW and let traffic die down.
Tuesday -Thursdaymy schedule was 12:30-1:45. So, basically no traffic either way.
Winter Quarter my schedule was
Tuesday-Thursday 11:1215-12:30-1:45. So, I didn’t really have too much traffic.Well, Thursday’s I had an 8AM discussion, which, I would get up at 5 and leave school before the real traffic hit in the morning
Wednesday- 3-5:45. No traffic going, and I would finish up my Thursday’s work at school till 8:30 or so.
This Quarter. I just go to school 2 days a week, 9:30 till 1:45.
Personally, I can’t live near or on campus. I can’t be in a constant bubble of UCLA. I need my freedom from school and that means away from all aspects. You need a break time to time. Plus, I can’t live with people I don’t know, I am a bit OCD and everything to be clean and orderly.
My piece of advice, try to schedule your commute 2 or 3 days a week. Driving to school 4 days was a pain in the ass. This quarter, I go to my 3 straight classes, back-back-back, and I am done, get in my car, and I am home before 2:30.
@Tik1127 Thank you for the reply! As a commuter, do you feel that you can participate in school events and clubs?
I really hope to schedule classes only 2 or 3 days a week. I just hope those classes are offered at a convenient time like that.
Another question, how big can the lecture halls get? @Tik1127
